SOLAREDGE HIGH PERFORMANCE INVERTERS
INNOVATION IN SOLAR POWER
In 2006 SolarEdge set out to solve inherent performance problems with string inverters. They achieved this by using ‘optimisers’ to make each solar panel generate its maximum possible power all the time. This led to increases in power generation of up to 25% with obvious electricity savings and better ROI.
For the first time solar power systems were able to operate in partial shade without significant power loss; solar panels could be placed on different roof aspects not just North and customers could monitor their panels to see if their system was operating or not before they got their electricity bill!
SolarEdge optimised inverters are sometimes mistaken for micro inverters. They are not the same. A very important difference is the additional technology that is available with a SolarEdge system. Solarpro combines this with other technologies to ensure the maximum possible amount of solar power is used in the home or business. Our customers have been reaping the extra financial rewards of this for years.
The basic benefits SolarEdge optimised solar power systems have over string inverters are:

SOLAREDGE, A LEADER IN RENEWABLE SOLUTIONS
The original SolarEdge inverter can be used on One Phase and Three Phase homes. A variety of capacities is available. The HD wave is the highest performing inverter on the market as well as being one of the smallest. SolarEdge also has its own solar storage solution called StorEdge. This enables unused solar power to be stored and it has an optional back up feature that automatically supplies power when the grid is down.
The latest addition to the SolarEdge panel optimisers and superior monitoring capabilities is the Appliance Device Control Suite. These small, inexpensive devices work with the SolarEdge inverter to give you control over which appliances you want to power with your excess solar power. You can finally use your solar power to heat your water with the immersion control device without the need for a separate solar hot water system. You have control of your power and have turned your home into a Smart Home.
SolarEdge has the World’s first inverter with an EV charger and of course the award winning Home Hub inverter which together with device control technology gives you the most sophisticated energy flow and maximum possible savings.
THE KEY SOLAREDGE ADVANTAGES
EACH PANEL GIVES ITS MAXIMUM POWER
In a string solar power system, all panels produce the amount of power of the lowest performing panel in the string. Optimised systems changed all of this and enabled each panel to produce the maximum power it could at any given time. Most people are aware what this means in terms of managing shade on panels from objects such as a chimney or trees or even a cloud as illustrated above. However, the following can also reduce your power production if you don’t have an optimised system.
VOLTAGE MISMATCH
Traditional systems lose 3-5% of potential available power due to voltage/panel mismatch. No panel is exactly the same as another, even if they are sold in a batch. Because in traditional systems panels are configured in series this has a negative impact on power production. Optimised systems allow every panel to work independently thus producing up to 5% more power straight away. This is before shade or any other issues are taken into account.
SHADE TOLERANT SYSTEM
Shade comes in several forms – fixed shade from trees or another structure and moving shadow from passing clouds, bird droppings or dirt that is on the panels intermitently. Every solar system is affected by shadow at some point of the day. SolarEdge ensures that one panel does not have a negative impact on total system output. Managing shade increases the amount of power generated by up to 25%.
A TRULY EXPANDABLE SYSTEM
With electricity prices continuing to rise, becoming as energy self-sufficient as possible now and having flexibility to increase this in the future is very appealing. With the right system it is possible to install a small amount of panels on a larger inverter and add more later without having any voltage mismatch issues. With SolarEdge you can start within a small budget and grow while continuing to achieve maximum power. It is possible to add panels to a traditional string system provided your inverter is big enough and the panels have the same power generating specifications. However, you will not achieve optimum power unless you retrofit modern technology.
FLEXIBLE DESIGN AND SMART SOLAR SUITE
The ability to have panels operating individually rather than in series has opened up a multitude of design options including the use of more roof space and integrating different panels e.g., as windows or transparent deck covers.
Solaredge also has expanded their options to lead the inverter manufacturers in the creation of a smart home. With the hot water diverter, the EV charger and battery capability the SolarEdge inverter will give you so many different options compared with other inverter technologies and brands.
TRIED, TESTED & AWARD WINNING
SolarEdge was developed in Israel in 2006. Tried and tested in Europe, USA and Japan it has been available in Australia since 2010. Solarpro has installed many many thousands of SolarEdge panels and inverters and has had very few technical issues. SolarEdge is reliable, long lasting and smart.

Can you give me a specific sample of the SolarEdge advantage when it comes to panel output?
Solaredge optimisers harvest more power from each panel. For example, in a 10 panel string inverter solution if 9 panels are showing a flash test result of 371 to 375W and one panel is only 362 Watts, in the string solution all 10 panels will only achieve a maximum of 362W per panel output. So the customer looses the opportunity to harvest the output of the higher wattage panel , as the string technology pulls all panels down to the lowest out put panel.
This will also disadvantage output when shade hits one panel. All panels in that string will reduce output in line with the shaded panel’s output.
On the other hand, with SolarEdge optimisers on each panel, weaker panels e.g. the 362W module will not affect the performance of higher wattage ones. Each panel will perform to their highest wattage. The SolarEdge system is safer to protect your overall PV system output, as if one panel deteriorates significantly, it will not affect the performance of the whole string, like in the string inverter technology.
How do SolarEdge technologies work?
The SolarEdge system allows for greater solar power harvesting from any PV system by simply eliminating known constraints from across the solar space. Firstly we will explore the optimiser. The SolarEdge power optimizer is a DC to DC converter that is connected to each PV module by installers or engrained by manufacturers, thereby replacing traditional solar junction boxes. The SolarEdge power optimizers boost electricity production from PV systems by continuously monitoring the maximum power point of each module individual module. Moreover, the power optimizers monitor each module’s performance and send performance information to the SolarEdge monitoring platform for improved, cost-effective maintenance.
Secondly, there is the SolarEdge Inverter. The SolarEdge inverter which converts DC-AC is designed specifically for use with the SolarEdge power optimizers. This is because the power optimizer handles MPPT and voltage management separately for each module, the inverter is only responsible for DC to AC inversion. As a result, it is a simpler, more cost-effective, and more reliable solar inverter with a standard 12-year warranty that can be extended to 20 or 25 years.
Finally, there is the SolarEdge monitoring platform. The SolarEdge PV Monitoring Platform is a platform that provides monitoring at the module, string, and system levels. The solar monitoring software improves PV system maintenance and output assurance.
Please clearly outline the benefits of SolarEdge?
Firstly, one of the primary reasons to select a SolarEdge inverter is the solar monitoring option. It can detect any flaws or failings that may exist, as well as any poorly performing panels induced by shading. SolarEdge, as an advanced monitoring platform, provides enhanced PV performance monitoring, such as instant detection of any issues and alerts at the module, string, and system levels.
Secondly, SolarEdge DC optimises differ from traditional string inverter technology in that they focus on maximising each independent solar panel. This allows shade-affected modules to be compensated while maintaining the overall system’s efficiency and performance. Thirdly, the warranty is one of the advantages of going with SolarEdge. They provide a standard 12-year warranty that can be upgraded to a 20-year warranty at a reasonable cost. Other brands with standard warranties may charge exorbitant extension fees.
Finally, another reason to choose SolarEdge innovation is their amazingly sophisticated safety features. With features like SafeDC, your SolarEdge optimisers will only operate when attached to the inverter, keeping your home and property safe in the event of an emergency.
