To make the most of the Government Battery Rebate it is important to properly understand it and crucial to choose a battery that aligns with your energy needs, especially during evening peak periods. A battery with sufficient capacity can store energy to carry you through these expensive times. If you have installed a “Smart” battery you can choose to re-charge overnight with cheaper grid electricity or wait for the sun to free charge with solar power, not all batteries have these options. Based on hundreds of home assessments, a minimum 10kWh battery is typically recommended to achieve this.
Understanding the Rebate
Starting this November, the rebate amount varies depending on your battery’s size and the market price of Peak Demand Reduction Certificates (PRCs). Estimates suggest the rebate could range from $1,300 to $3,800*. This rebate applies to your first battery purchase, provided you have or are installing a solar system, which also qualifies for its own rebate.
Additionally, connecting your battery to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) could earn you an additional $200 to $570.
