Generating energy from solar is a good investment for many reasons. It reduces your environmental footprint, saves you money and can increase your property value. A typical solar system comprises two main parts, the panels and the inverter. Solarpro installs top quality, high energy efficient LG solar panels. These are combined with the SolarEdge optimised inverter to deliver award winning performance.
While solar panels are important and very visible, the heart and brains of modern solar systems is the inverter. It converts the direct current the solar panels produce into a usable alternating current that the appliances in your home or business use. There are three different inverter technologies available, string, micro and optimised. We have provided more information on the significant differences between these three technologies further down the page.
A smart solar system has a ‘smart’ centralised inverter controlling the system. A ‘smart’ inverter has a small computer in it that allows you to do all kinds of amazing things with the free energy you generate.
The smartest solar system available today is SolarEdge. It's an optimised system, which means each panel operates individually unlike a string system. Off the shelf, it will generate more power than other inverters purely due to the architecture of the system, which could be the main reason for installing a SolarEdge system alone. Or, you may be the type of person who wants to take full control of your home's energy and integrate some energy control devices into your solar system.
The inbuilt computer enables you to take control of your home's energy down to each switched appliance. You can programme appliances like the air conditioner or a pool heat pump not to come on until there is enough excess solar energy being produced. You may like to have your underfloor heating or heated towel rails on a solar-powered timer so they are warm and ready when you want them. Electric hot water tanks are popular again because we can direct the excess solar electricity directly into your tank. A very cost-effective way to have a solar hot water system. Solar-powered EV chargers can also be integrated to ensure you can use the sun's energy rather than the grid if you choose.
Ready by times and excess solar modes can be set to keep you off the grid longer than ever. Combine all of this technology with a home battery and now the grid is only there to back you up, your solar system is now the main supplier of energy for your home. You will also be able to see how much energy your home uses or exports to the grid at a glance. Energy control in the palm of your hand on your device.
There are three types of solar inverters available, which all have different attributes. Below you will find the main differences.
These systems consist of an inverter connected to a string of solar panels. String solar systems have limitations that prevent them from reaching their full potential power production. This is simply a legacy of past design. Technology has moved on. Solarpro installs string systems such as the Fronius or the SMA inverters as a budget option. Things to consider are:
• Up-front cost is less than optimised solar systems
• Solar panels operate in series to the level of the lowest-performing panel in the string
• Power loss is caused by shade and voltage differences (no two panels are exactly the same)
• Panel output cannot be monitored
• Optimised solar technology was developed to improve on string solar systems
Solarpro does not recommend micro inverters for use in Australia:
• They are rated to work up to 65 degrees compared to 85 degrees for optimisers
• The warranty is only 10 years in Australia compared to 20 years in Europe
• Liquid electrolyte is used
• With twice as many parts as optimisers there is a greater risk of failure
• The largest micro inverter is 310W. If you are using a 370W LG panel it will be choked at the micro inverter
Enjoy automatic on-the-go device control and lower your electricity bill with the SolarEdge ‘device control suite’. A correctly designed solar power system will generate excess energy. The SolarEdge system lets you decide what is done with that energy from heating hot water to powering domestic appliances or a pool pump. Using the SolarEdge App you can manage it all on the run from your phone or just set it and forget it.
Don’t Pay to Dry your Clothes : Let the Sun Do It
The Solar Powered Smart Home
How the Smart Home Works
There has never been a better time to invest in solar. Businesses are seeing a ROI in as little as four years and electricity bills dropping significantly. The electricity net metering system in NSW favours the use of solar energy by businesses who use electricity in daylight hours. Our Commercial Solar experts can quickly go through the possibilities for your business and expected ROI.
No need to use capital up front. Finance is available for small and medium businesses. We can arrange finance even if you are renting your premises. Your own bank may be willing to provide a loan when they know the company and products are secure.
The more energy self-sufficient you can be the better off you are. Net metering for electricity means that if you use solar power for your daylight hours of electricity, it will be free. Anything you don’t use will go to the grid and you will be paid a feed-in tariff for the excess.
If you use most of your electricity in daylight hours, e.g. running office air conditioners, lights, machinery etc., the solar system you install will pay for itself quickly, especially if you have taken a finance option and used tax benefits. Electricity prices are already spiralling. It is taking less and less time for systems to pay for themselves and there is tax relief available.
‘Green’ credentials are good business with any stakeholder group, whether its environmental reporting, helping win tenders, saving money through energy efficiency or simply making the working environment more pleasant. Solar is a cost-effective, visible, easily reported high energy-saving solution.
It seems inevitable that legislation will become increasingly tough on environmental polluters. There are rewards available to counter this and smart businesses are embracing the opportunity to make financial, political and social gains from society’s drive to protect our environment. It’s a good time to get ahead of the game.
