ABOUT THE TESLA POWERWALL

Solarpro recommends the Tesla Powerwall to any customer hoping to go energy independent in a modern home, coupled with a reasonably size solar system (6.6kW or up).

The Tesla Powerwall has been installed and is operating successfully in Australia since mid-2015 and the battery has some great features, such as back up during blackout. One can also set the discharge rate and minimum % of discharge.

With the ability to program the batteries priorities you can choose if the Tesla Powerwall should 1st dispatch electricity into your home, keep the battery in current state of charge or export power to the grid.

One recent improvement was made to the Powerwall+, where the manufacturer has increased the power rating. The continuous power rating of a battery tells you how much power can get out of the battery constantly. This means it will also indicate how many appliances the battery can power at the same time.

When the sun shines, Powerwall batteries can provide 8 kW continuous power and 6 kW in the evening and night. A single Powerwall can now power lights, power outlets and 240volt appliances like your fridge, TV, washing machine, and washer all at the same time, so if there is a power outage, you can still enjoy a significant amount of comfort at your home. So ask the Solarpro battery specialists for more details.

TESLA WINS IN MANY ASPECTS

The Tesla Powerwall is an excellent battery. For a fair price, it has advanced features, looks great and offers impressive technical specifications, making it a top choice when considering a solar battery purchase.

For example, the Powerwall’s ability to produce more power off-grid is an excellent feature. It can release between 7 kW and 9.6kW, depending on the weather conditions. The Powerwall therefore can power some additional appliances in your home if it is disconnected from the grid during an outage. Naturally during a blackout it is nevertheless wise to preserve power in order to stay in the electricity supply as much as possible. So a blackout is not the time to cook a big roast in the electric oven.

10 YEAR PRODUCT WARRANTY

The Powerwall’s warranty is quite typical for lithium-ion batteries, being 10 years. Furthermore, batteries do loose storage capability over the years and after 10 years it is expected that the Tesla Powerwall retains 70% of the initial capacity.

The true life expectancy has many variables such as the depth of discharge, meaning how far do you discharge the battery every time, installation conditions including exposure to hot temperatures and overall operating mode.

TESLA BATTERY MONITORING

On the Tesla app, you are not only checking your solar generation, home consumption and energy export, including the battery’s state of charge at a glance, it also allows you to load shift energy according to your tariff. This enhances your energy savings. You can also take it to the next level by setting it to “Cost Saving” mode and let the computer decide what’s best depending on the weather and your average usage for that day. This battery really lets you step into the future!

SOLARPRO HAS INSTALLED TESLA SINCE 2017

Solarpro installed the first Powerwall 2 on the Northern Beaches in 2017, and since then added many more batteries to homes in the North and East of Sydney.

Connected to a correctly sized solar power system, it is estimated it can power a  family home overnight.  It will enable you to have lights and appliances on in the evening, and maximising your household consumption of solar energy to save money on your electricity bill.

ADDING TO AN EXISTING SOLAR SYSTEM

It is an AC coupled battery which makes it compatible with all existing solar systems, as long as the system’s capacity is big enough to have enough capacity to fill the battery. The Tesla battery can simply be added to your current system without the need to purchase a separate battery inverter. If your existing solar system has a string solar inverter, you might want to consider installing technology to optimise your panels for maximum power generation.

INSTALLING THE TESLA POWERWALL 2

The Tesla Powerwall is an attractive looking piece of modern technology. With its sleek modern design it is actually a feature piece in many homes. It can be mounted on an internal or external wall or sit on the ground. You can have up to 9 Powerwalls, if you home happens to have a massive consumption, and cost is no barrier.

The Powerwall 2 has a liquid thermal control system that regulates its internal temperature to maximise battery performance in any climate, as batteries prefer coll to medium surrounding temperatures , over very hot temperatures. Despite this excellent cooling technology by Tesla, Solarpro recommends an inside installation where possible.
